Everyone Is Okay!

Since we announced the closing of Namba Gear, I’ve received many concerned inquiries and heart-warming well wishes from our customers. I thought I’d take a moment to let everyone know that we are okay and explain what has happened.

Our products are manufactured in China,

and the increase in tariffs (taxes) on Chinese products put in place in 2018 drove the existing tariff from 3.1% to 19.3%. Paying an additional 16% on goods severely crippled our business. However, we still had companies that we made O.E.M. (original equipment manufacturer) products for, which were custom-designed and branded. This business became more difficult with time. Early in 2025, tariffs were increased yet again to 135.3% and, as of this writing, are at 54.9%. These fluctuations also cause uneasiness among private companies regarding the placement of orders.

It was too much.

We could no longer supply competitive products. We decided that we had no choice but to close our doors, dismiss all employees, and liquidate all remaining inventory.

we’ve been successful in reducing the inventory by half. But that means we still have a formidable quantity of products that are looking for a good, “forever” home.
